5 Ingredient Bacon Jam

This bacon jam is a game changer. It's easy to make and it's full of flavor. It's the perfect thing to have on hand to make your meal taste better. One serving adds only about 75 calories to your meal. Bored of eating scrambled eggs? Bacon jam. Sick of plain chicken and veggies? Bacon jam. Trying to impress someone with a fancy cheese board? You guessed it, bacon jam! Check out the bottom of the page to see several ways that I use my bacon jam.

  • 1 package of bacon (about 20 slices)

  • 1 sweet onion

  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

  • 1/3 cup brewed dark roast coffee

  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar


  1. Cook the bacon according to package instructions and reserve two tablespoons of bacon fat. (I usually cook bacon in the oven, but for this recipe I used a pan so there were fewer dishes to clean).

  2. While the bacon is cooking, dice the onion.

  3. Using the reserved bacon fat, caramelize the onion in a pan over low-medium heat. Cook for about 25 minutes stirring occasionally. You'll want to cook them slowly over low heat to get good caramelization and sweetness.

  4. Once the onions are cooked, crumble the bacon into the pan and add the vinegar, coffee, and sugar.

  5. Stir everything together until the sugar is dissolved. Lower the heat slightly and allow the jam to reduce for about 15 minutes.

  6. Transfer the jam to a blender or food processor and blend for about 20 seconds. You can skip this step, but it won't be as spreadable.

  7. Eat right away. Stores in the fridge for up to 10 days.
